Pediatric Physical Therapy can certainly seem both terrifying and intimidating, especially to a newcomer physical therapist or a physical therapist who has never treated a patient under 21 years of age (that was me at one point). Nevertheless, being willing to accept the role of an ongoing learner vs viewing oneself as a single time expert in the field, could certainly lead to decreasing the common levels of career doubt and anxiety associated with becoming an ideal Pediatric Physical Therapist.
If we can be completely transparent and honest with ourselves, we should admit and accept that Pediatric Physical Therapy was not birthed, nor mastered in a day, a month, nor a year’s timeframe. It took a lot of dedicated time and endless research for the skills and the knowledge behind the skills to fully come into fruition. Therefore, don’t count your skills out, and don’t shy away from them indefinitely. Your skills as a Pediatric Physical Therapist may take time to fully develop and master, but just like the little ones we serve, we have to aim for optimal development even in the midst of some milestones we still haven’t quite reached yet. The process of mastering Pediatric Physical Therapy is both ongoing and timeless, but never impossible. If you have a loving heart and passion for the younger population and you are willing to learn as they learn, then Pediatric Physical Therapy is definitely for you! ❤️
